Crews respond to motor vehicle crash with reported entrapment

On Sunday, March 31st, 2013, crews from the East Rivanna Volunteer Fire Company and Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue responded to the 3500 block of Thomas Jefferson Parkway for a reported motor vehicle crash with entrapment.  Initial reports stated that a victim was trapped in the car, and that the car had caught fire.  While units were enroute, courageous bystanders were able to quickly remove the patient from the burning vehicle.  Engine 24 arrived shortly thereafter to find a single patient lying in the roadway and a vehicle fully involved.  Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire and render aide to the injured driver.  Factors contributing to the cause of the accident are being investigated by the Albemarle County Police Department, but speed did appear to be a factor.
