Shortly before 2:00 AM, crews from the Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue and the East Rivanna Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to mile-marker 127 on Interstate 64 for a reported vehicle fire.  The Emergency Communications Center reported receiving several calls indicating that a tractor-trailer was involved.  Engine 111 arrived 2:05 AM and found a 53-foot box trailer fully involved.  Engine 111, a 2013 Pierce Impel PUC rescue pumper, deployed an 1 3/4" Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS) line and began suppression efforts.  Engine 24 arrived immediately behind Engine 111 and assisted with their efforts.  The fire was able to be contained to the trailer and its contents - both appeared to be a total loss.

The eastbound lanes of I-64 were completely closed for nearly two hours while crews managed the scene.  Lanes were re-opened and the scene was turned over to the Virginia State Police at 4:30 AM.  It was confirmed that there were no injuries sustained and no hazardous materials on board the trailer.
