Albemarle County Fire Rescue is pleased to announce that we are hosting our 5th Annual Citizen Fire Rescue Academy at the East Rivanna Volunteer Fire Company this October. This class is five nights with fire rescue staff providing an overview of the Fire Rescue system in Albemarle County. Topics will include administration, budget, operations, training, and community risk reduction.
After each night of lecture, students will view a demonstration and participate in a hands-on exercise with members of the East Rivanna Volunteer Fire Company. This will include wearing firefighting gear with an air tank, operating hose lines, and cutting up a car with extrication tools.
On the last night of class, students will see firsthand the effects of a home fire with a live fire demonstration.
